Revise and Resubmit: Criticism of the Planned Reform of the WissZeitVG from the Perspective of German Professors

Revise and Resubmit

Statement on the draft bill of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research: Draft of a law amending the law on fixed-term contracts for science and academia (June 14th, 2023)

On March 17, 2023, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) published the key points of a draft bill to revise the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG) (Act on Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Academia).

Within a very short time, a heated debate flared up and protests formed in many places. Professors with permanent or tenure-track positions are also protesting against the planned amendment. They declare their solidarity with the academic staff, more than two-thirds of whom are employed in temporary positions. This is because their working conditions at German universities, which are already barely acceptable, are in danger of deteriorating even further.

On this page, we try to keep track of the public debate on the amendment of the WissZeitVG, we collect and present current media coverage as work in progress.
